Preserve the Past - Restore- Repair- Share

Pieces of Our Past

Original Song by Singer/Songwriter and Author Allen Levi. Used by permission

About This Service

Our restoration artists have been restoring photos digitally for almost 35 years since Photoshop was first introduced back in 1990. They bring a wealth of experience and skill to restoring your treasured heirloom photos. We DO NOT need your original photo. Scan or copy with a DSLR camera or even a cell phone. See the "HOW TO COPY AND SCAN"  below for specific information.

How To Copy or Scan an Old Photo

Old photographs are often fragile and brittle. Great care must be used when handling them. You can always reach out to me directly if you have questions about how to handle an old fragile photo.

  1. Scanning (Up to 8x10): Use a home scanner at 600 DPI and save as a JPEG.
  2. Photographing: Place the photo on a well-lit porch or overhang. Use a DSLR or a high-quality phone. Keep the image square—shoot straight on, not at an angle. Get as close as possible to maximize quality.
  3. Photo Stuck to Glass? Do not try to remove it. Scan it as-is behind the glass after removing it from the frame. The glass does not glare on a scanner
  4. Curled Photos: Hold over gentle steam, then press under books to flatten.
  5. Torn Photos: Arrange pieces without taping if possible, if you need to use tape we suggest using the blue painter's tape and assemble and tape the back side of the prints.
